A simple and inexpensive free range egg trailer
It’s been something we’ve been talking to customers about for quite a few years, but it’s great now to have an example that has come to fruition. A mobile chicken trailer, made with our famous SKA 10-hole rollaway nest boxes! Such a simple and inexpensive way to start out on the free range farm adventure. So with special thanks to our friends Scott and Maureen at Sandy Creek Macadamias, we have now got some great photos to illustrate just what can be done.
Sandy Creek Macadamia’s is located in Anderleigh (near Gympie, Qld) and has 3,000 mature macadamia trees, as well as smaller crops of mangoes and calendula flowers. They harvest macadamias and make the nut based products in the commercial kitchen on the farm. Recently, Scott and Maureen commenced a trial of running hens on the farm, as much for the birds’ by-product as for the eggs that were produced. Using four SKA 10-hole nests (mounted backwards and with the usual nest entrance blocked), they have adapted a single wheel base trailer into a mobile shed for up to 200 birds. The eggs are kept clean and are simple to collect (without the need to enter the trailer).
Farmer Little will be receiving a large shipment of 10-hole rollaway nests in the next 2 weeks. These are sure to be in high demand. Feel free to pre-place orders for these nest boxes at the website and Facebook only price of $349 (plus freight at cost). Contact us on firstname.lastname@example.org for pre-orders or just to ask any questions about the nest boxes.
